Official Statement on Rumors: https://www.belladonnascupboard.com/pages/9-7-2018
Who is Belladonna's Cupboard or Belladonna's Cosmetics? As most of you know, we are a tiny business. Two sisters, Rachel Boese & Beth Amphetamine. Our team consists primarily of the two of us, (plus Rachel's husband). While our brand has grown rapidly this year after announcing our Cthulhu Palette and Tentacle Brushes pre-orders, our team has not, and we've hired local assistants to help with production and shipping in Fall 2018 as we scale our organization to meet the needs of our customers.
At Gen Con 2018 in early August, we dropped the Cupboard off of the end of our name when we launched our new logo and website. We have been gradually changing over our social media, packaging, business cards and other handles to reflect this change. We made the change because colloquially, most people refer to our line as simply "Belladonna's".
Where are your products made / Where do you get them? All of our products have been handmade by us since we were founded in 2014, except for the makeup bags and the brush sets & the second version of the Cthulhu palette. The makeup bags are printed on demand, and are fulfilled and shipped by a third party. The makeup brush sets or other items that we offer as gifts free with purchase are also from a third party. Our tentacle brushes, which we do not buy pre-made from a wholesaler, are our first venture into outside manufacturing, so please bear with us as we work out the kinks with the various packaging manufacturers we’ve been dealing with. We will not be working with any further outside manufacturers due to the issues we've had. Instead, we are hiring help and upgrading our processes to increase quality and keep up with demand. With the Vampire: The Masquerade launch, and subsequent launches, our pigments will be pressed with hydraulic presses to reduce breakage, just like your favorite big brand cosmetics.
Where do you get the artwork you use on your products? We either license the artwork directly from the copyright holders (for example, Gothic Tarot Highlighters, Cthulhu Palette and Vampire: The Masquerade collection), commission custom artwork specifically for the product (Artetak's artwork for the Baphomet Palette), or more rarely, use images that are in the public domain. It is incredibly important to us to support artists and other small businesses wherever possible.
You feature a lot of controversial subjects on or in descriptions of your products. Why? We believe in the idea that everyone should be respected and allowed to express themselves regardless of their race, age, sexual orientation, gender or gender identity, disability or style choices. This includes tattoo and piercing acceptance (and the acceptance of alternative fashion and unnatural hair colors) in the workplace. We are tired of being told how we “should” look, of having the beauty industry dissect our body parts, sizes and features. It is time to embrace and encourage the message that all people are beautiful.
We believe in using our platform to educate and give back whenever possible. Many of our products feature controversial or dark horror themes. This is why so many of our products offer education about these subjects as well as include a charitable component where a portion of the proceeds of sales from said products goes to good causes. Featured causes for donation have included Black Lives Matter, The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and more.

Tell me about your ingredients. Are your products vegan/cruelty free? We only use pre-tested and pre-approved cosmetics ingredients based not only on the FDA regulations but also the stricter regulations of the European Cosmetics Directive. All of our products are 100% vegan, cruelty free, gluten free, paraben free and talc free. We also only use suppliers that are cruelty free! We are completely transparent about the ingredients we use and why (you can read more about our ingredients here).
We do use preservatives in any products that require liquids to process or use. This is to keep you safe and keep the products from growing mold. It's important!
Why are we still taking pre-orders for the tentacle brushes instead of cutting off pre-orders after the first bout of issues with manufacturing? Because this is an expensive process and we need the pre-orders to continue making sure we are able to finish the manufacturing process. We would also like to be able have the brushes in stock for future orders to avoid similar delays. The same answer holds true for the Vampire Collection, we've been working on this collection for almost a year and if we stopped taking pre-orders, the collection would never exist. We already have to make a certain number minimum so pausing pre-orders would only hurt the process. We will have help with shipping going forward and we now have systems to better manage stock & shipping so we don't anticipate any more significant delays in the future.
What is the best way to get a hold of you? Please contact us at email@example.com We usually respond to emails within 2 business days. Email is by far the quickest and easiest way for us to keep track of communication with you and serve you best. However, occasionally our email server has been overwhelmed by the volume of inquiries and we haven't received some emails. If we haven't responded within a reasonable timeframe, please reach out to us on Social Media and we will get you taken care of as quickly as humanly possible.
I have an idea for a really cool eye shadow/lipstick color, can I show you a swatch? And can you make it for me? Maybe. Show us the swatch and we'll see what we can do.
I have really sensitive skin, will your cosmetics cause me to break out? Honestly, we can't answer that. Everyone's skin is different. The term "non comedogenic" that some brands use is an unregulated term and anyone can say their products are non comedogenic without any testing or specifications required. We don't use unsubstantiated buzz words like that. The only way to know for sure is to try it. We offer sample sizes for most of our products. We also list all of our ingredients, the safety and research behind them and why we use them here. If you are not satisfied with anything you order from us, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we will do whatever we can to assist you through return or exchange if necessary.
I'd like to write a review on your products, can you send me free stuff to try? Maybe. We love bloggers, Youtubers and brand ambassadors! We are also always looking for people to try and review our products so we can improve them. Email email@example.com with a link to your blog/website. We offer tiers of discounts to professionals (MUAs, hairstylists, performers etc), bloggers and promoters and do send out PR packages to select influencers based on their following and the audience and theme of the specific release.
Do you pay people to write reviews? Will you hide negative reviews? No and No! We will never pay anyone to write a review, and we don't believe in hiding bad ones! Paying people can sometimes lead to an unfair bias, and we believe everyone has a right to their opinion. However, we do not tolerate bullying or attacks either on ourselves or customers. We have zero tolerance on our pages for negative comments about anyone’s appearance. We want everyone to feel welcome and safe on our pages.
I own a store and would love to carry your products. Can I make a wholesale order? Yes! Sign up for an account through our store section on this website. Then email us at contact@Belladonnascupboard.com or use the contact form on our wholesale page and we will upgrade your account to a wholesale account so you can automatically browse and buy at wholesale pricing once we receive all of your store info. We can also create custom products for wholesale customers and love to collaborate with other brands!
What is your return/refund policy?
We stand behind our product 100%! Please contact us if you have any problems whatsoever. We will always refund or replace products if there are any issues or you are unhappy with your purchase for any reason. For a short time, we stopped allowing refunds on the pre-order of the Cthulhu brushes due to a high volume of requests based on misunderstanding of the terms of pre-ordering. However, we are currently working around the clock to rectify this issue.
Unfortunately, sometimes makeup breaks during shipping. It can happen to any makeup that has endured direct-to-consumer shipping, from any brand. We always do our best to replace any breakages or instruct our customers on how to do repairs on their shadows themselves if they prefer.
Just to be clear.. hand pressed pigments tend to be more on the fragile side. There are reasons for this.
1. There are less additives and fillers. I could add these things and make them more durable, but that would compromise the color payoff.
2. Less binder. Similar reason as above.. if I add more binder, it will be more durable, but it will also be harder and more difficult to use with a brush.
3. I only have a desk top hand press. I don't have large machinery to work with. I don't have a full lab. No hydraulic presses or pressure tubes. I have elbow grease and upper arm strength.
4. Sometimes we emboss our pigments. This makes them look more polished and "pretty. This also makes them more fragile, especially when the embossing stamp used has very small and intricate lines and details.
So please bare with us, most of our makeup is handmade and the pressed pigments specifically go on like butter while the color payoff is like no other.
Thank you so much for your continued support!
~Beth and Rachel
